🎶 All you need is...
We see our moms as several things as we grow older; she’s our security blanket as a child, she’s the one we can’t stand as a teenager, and she’s the one we realize we’re becoming as an adult. Yet through every phase, she remains the one who wakes up to comfort you when you’re sick at 3am, defends you against anyone with all of her strength, drives you hundreds of miles to chase your craziest dreams, and promises to never leave your side — even if it means sleeping nose to nose juuuust to make sure. Everywhere I go, people say I remind them of my momma. Boy, ain’t I lucky. I love you, Mom. Happy Mother’s Day.

Three years ago, we established an annual “Peer Prom” at KCC to ensure that our special kiddos received the chance to get all fancied up and dance the night away. They love to dance. Each November, the peer tutors and I invite the families of the students to join us in celebrating a prom hosted specifically for our students with special needs. Last night, however, these kiddos got all fancied up to go to the actual prom. Now, I have the honor of presenting to you Prom King Wesley Messer, Prom Queen Alyssa Campbell, and her handsome escort Dustin Shepherd! 👑 Folks, I am friends with royalty! I am so glad we are living in a world where friends like mine are loved. They are accepted. They are embraced. They are encouraged to be whatever they can dream of being. Peer Prom was established out of fear that these students wouldn’t get to attend prom, but last night those fears were completely erased. I’m proud of these three, and of course, I’m always proud to be a Patriot.
